Dear New York,

Dear New York is an immersive public art installation created by Brandon Stanton as an extension of Humans of New York.

The project temporarily transformed Grand Central Terminal by removing all advertising and replacing it with projections, photography, live performances, and environmental graphics celebrating the people and diversity of New York City. Spanning the station’s subway levels and main concourse, the installation created a temporary yet deeply communal experience rooted in the city’s collective identity.

Petit Serif references the intricate mosaic craftsmanship found throughout New York City’s subway stations, while ABC Walter Neue draws from the typographic language of the MTA signage system. Together, the typefaces create a dialogue between the city’s historic character and its contemporary urban identity, balancing ornamentation with functionality.
